What is the legal limit for BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) in my area?
Every state in the US currently defines a BAC of 0.08% or higher as criminal when operating a motor vehicle. Please refer to the following link for more details:

Statistics related to Alcohol-Impaired Driving

  • Alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents kill someone every 31 minutes and injure someone every 2 minutes (NHTSA, 2004)

  • During 2003, over 17,000 people died in alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents, representing 40% of all traffic-related deaths (NHTSA, 2004)

  • More than 2/3 of child passengers ages 14 and younger who died in alcohol-related crashes during 1997-2002 were riding with the drinking driver (Shults, 2004)

Relative Driver Fatality Risk Compared to BAC

Even a BAC reading of 0.05%, which is below the legal limit for DUI/DWI conviction, may indicate a risk of up to 11 times greater than normal. The use of breathalyzers can alert drivers that may otherwise think they've had a "safe" amount. There is NO "safe" amount of drinking before driving.
